There is a "green" blogsite that's well conceived, well designed, well written, and a veritable well of everything Organic in the Philippines. The organic mom blogger, responsible for the site, Jhoey Hernandez, was a classmate in a special internet marketing course at AIM. Our mentor, Anton Diaz, of OurAwesome Planet fame, should be very proud at the output of his pupils. The sowing of seeds and the tending of the learning garden, are now producing crops, abundant and lush, much ready for a harvest.

Is a Green Philippines Really Possible? Theresa of asks the question most of us are likewise asking. We could get the answers from an authority in green living in the Philippines, Mr. Nicanor Perlas. His name should, by now, be familiar to everyone --- as there aren't that many running for the highest position in government in the country. is not campaigning for anybody, as a matter of policy; but will continue to campaign for green learning, green values and green principles. If a candidate holds a forum or a round table discussion on our favorite topic, I most likely will come and try to get much learning from the occasion. I will likewise inform everyone about it. How to Change the World with Style is actually the subtitle to the book by Tamsin Blanchard, GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK. It is one of the most popular green fashion books on the shelves, my mini research told me, and that's why I grabbed a copy of it. It was a quick read. It was a pleasant,informative, quick read.

Saying something is the "new black" is saying that something is the most fashionable or en vogue. The phrase has its history in Audrey Hepburn's 1957 film, Funny Face. It's a quote from fashion magazine editor character, Maggie Prescott: "Pink is the new black."

Earth-friendly Cookware

Many will be busy in the kitchen these days; thus, this post is timely. Would you know if your cookware --- pans and pots --- are “green”? I started to ask when I saw some ads about eco pans and green cookware in the newspapers. How are these different from our old reliables? Or are they really as good as we think they are?

Facts we should know about: 

Heat causes materials to be more reactive.

Stainless steel, glass, and enameled cast iron are good heat conductors and remain chemically unreactive or inert even in high temperatures.

Acids in food heightens reactions with the metals.

Aluminum and the specially-coated non-stick cookware, on the other hand, leach toxic substances and release toxic fumes in very high temperatures.

Some aluminum and copper cookware are coated with stainless steel to make them food safe even in high heat situations.
